Team

We help public institutions know whether the science and technologies they rely on are actually working — and whether they are working soundly.

Will is the founder of Tech Integrity Lab. His 2014 PhD, advised by Melanie Mitchell, was an early contribution to the science of machine learning interpretability. As a data scientist, machine learning engineer, and technical lead at tech companies like Twitter, Lyft, Stripe, and Nextdoor, he specialized in finding the subtle and often unintentional ways that algorithms and their evaluations can mislead users. His work includes the measurement and remediation of misbehaving or misaligned algorithmic systems through both technical and policy decisions. He is a member of the IEEE AI Policy Committee.
